February 2010
Dear Red Ribbon Friends, What an exciting start to 2010! Red Ribbon Friends had an excellent turn out at January’s Drop-in. Fourteen people filled out applications and many others said they were interested in helping. “Thanks” to Charles for hosting, Dave and Korey for the hard work with the food, and Charlie for the wonderful red roses. Red Ribbon Friends is also happy to announce that Tim Kelley has enthusiastically accepted to be our new president. He has already worked tirelessly for the organization since winning the Miss Red Ribbon Friends this past September as the wonderful Kelly Brooks! Tim has already planned a big fundraiser in late May by obtaining the rights to perform the musical comedy Honky Tonk Angels . Three of your fabulous local female impersonators will perform LIVE many of your favorite country songs! More details will be available later. This is in addition to our other fundraisers. Kelly Brooks is always out in the community promoting RRF. She sold roses on Valentine’s weekend even with the inclement weather. Again, “Thanks” to Charlie for the roses. On Sunday, February 21st, Red Ribbon Friends will have a general meeting at 5:00PM, at the new Careteam facilities, just off of Clay Pond Road. Everyone is welcome to attend. Our first big fundraiser is Saturday, February 27th, midnight, Time Out. Red Ribbon Friends will be hosting their own Mardi Gras Party! Miss RRF Kelly Brooks and the other ladies have special numbers planned to entertain us! It should be exciting! Anyone wishing to help decorate that day, show up at Time Out at 3:00PM. It takes about an hour of your time. If you would like to help that evening , show up at 10:30PM. Red Ribbon Friends will be selling beads and have a table set up to take more applications. The show has already been lined up for this event, but there will be many opportunities in the future to perform. I hope to see everyone next weekend! Remember the annual “Luau for the Cause”, a fundraiser for Careteam’s Dining with Friends, will be in April. Red Ribbon Friends would appreciate any donations for door prizes. This may be gift certificates, coupons, promotional items, unwrapped/unused presents, etc. to make the event more exciting. Items can be given to Charles Foster. This will be the sixth celebration, and they continue to get bigger and better. It is one of the few events that seems to get the whole community involved - Food, Fun, and Friendship on Sunday, April 18th! As always, Red Ribbon Friends appreciates all you have done in the past and continue to do to help fight the battle locally against HIV and AIDS. Without you, we would not be able to celebrate our 10th year this December! Keep up the good work! See you soon! Love, Scott
